TENTH ANNUAL CELEBRATION
OF ST. ROCCO IS TWO DAYS

Tomorrow and Sunday, August 18 and 19, the committee of St. Rocco, under the auspices of the Aliquippa
Italian Political and Musical club will hold the tenth annual celebration of St. Rocco. This gala festival
will be featured with a grand parade, delightful band concerts, sports events and various other entertainments.
The sponsor officials are:
President - Frank Vallecorsa
Vice President - Tony Guira
Treasurer - Pete Testa
Secretary - Frank Rossi
Chairman of the Sports - Siver Montini
The committee has planned a brilliant program and assures the public two days of dissipating enjoyment.
Tomorrow afternoon, at two o’clock, the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation band, under the direction of Walter
Iacobucci, will start the two-day ceremonies by marching over Plan 11 streets, then proceeding to Plan 7 and
McDonald Heights.
Tomorrow night, from 7 until 11:30, the band will give a concert at the stand on Third avenue, Plan 11, where
the holiday is being celebrated. At 9 o’clock, there will be a dance at the Polish hall, Fourth avenue.
Sunday morning, at 7 o’clock, the J & L band will march through the streets on Plan 11. At 9:15, the grand
parade will form at the Polish hall on Fourth avenue, led by the Sons of Italy band and the J & L band, the
parade will march down Fifth avenue to Sheffield Avenue, along Franklin avenue to St. Titus R. C. church,
where high mass in memory of St. Rocco will be at 10:30. After the mass, the parade will return to Plan 11.
At four o’clock, the following athletic contests will be staged:
Boys’ race - 12 to 16 years
Young men’s race - 16 to 20 years
Boys’ shoe scramble - 12 to 16 years
Fat men’s race
Three-legged race - 12 to 16 years
Young girls’ race - 12 to 15 years
Young women’s race - 16 to 20
Pie eating contest
Spaghetti eating contest
The final event will be a rope-pulling contest. A prize will be given each winner, the prizes being donated
by a number of merchants of Aliquippa.
At 7 p.m., a splendid concert will be given by the Sons of Italy band, under the direction of Carlo D’Atri,
from West Aliquippa. At 7:30 the J & L band will take the stand. The bands will alternate, each offering some
favorite selection.
Fifteen prizes will be given away at the bandstand at 9 o’clock. This event will be very interesting due to
the various assortments of prizes.
After the prizes, the public will again be entertained by the two bands. The gay celebration will come to a
close at 11:30 Sunday night.
