ITALIANS TO CELEBRATE ST. ROCCO’S DAY

TWO DAYS OF FESTIVITIES WILL BE STAGED BY LOCAL POLITICAL CLUB AUG. 13-14

CELEBRATION STARTS AT NOON SATURDAY WITH BATTERY DISPLAY ON PLAN 11

PARADE WILL BE HELD SUNDAY A.M.; MASS LATER

J & L and Ambridge Bands Will Give Concerts; Fireworks Display Will Be Saturday Night

       Saturday and Sunday, August 13th and 14th, the third annual celebration of St. Rocco’s Day will be staged by the Italian Citizens Political club, of Woodlawn, when two days of festivities will be presented.

       At 12 o’clock noon on Saturday, August 13th, the celebration opens with a battery display on Plan 11. Then at 2 p.m. on the same date the J & L band will march over the streets on Plan 11 and from 3:30 to 5 p.m. will give a concert in the bandstand on Fourth Avenue, Plan 11.

       In the evening at 10:30 o’clock there will be a grand display of fireworks on Plan 11, the fireworks display to be by Pennsylvania Fireworks Manufacturing Company and the Ohio Fireworks Manufacturing Company. From 6 p.m. until midnight on Saturday, the J & L band will give a concert at the Fourth Avenue band stand.

       Sunday morning, August 14th, the J & L band will start the day with a concert, beginning at 7 a.m. on Plan 11, while the Ambridge band is marching through Plan 7. At 9 a.m., Sunday there will be a parade, which will start form Fourth Avenue, Plan 11.

       The line of march will be from Plan 11 to Franklin avenue, down Franklin to Station Street, then counter march up Franklin Avenue to St. Titus church where special high mass in memory of St. Rocco will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. After mass, the parade will march over the downtown streets.

       At 1:30 p.m. Sunday, the J & L and Ambridge bands will give concerts at the Plan 11 band stand, this form of entertainment to continue at intervals until midnight. Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, there will be a program of sports on Plan 11, the features being a sack race, girls’ race and other events.

       The committee in charge of the celebration is composed of President, Daniel Barletta; Vice President, Leo Andreozzi; President on, Tony Bufalini; J & L bandleader, Felix Refice; and Ambridge bandleader, Ernesto Vallecorso.

ST. ROCCO’S DAY SUNDAY PROGRAM IS POSTPONED UNTIL SUNDAY AUGUST 21

       A continual down-pour of rain on Sunday caused a postponement of the Sunday program arranged by the Italian Citizens’ Political club, of Woodlawn, for the third annual celebration of St. Rocco’s Day, for Saturday and Sunday, August 13th and 14th.

       Saturday’s program was carried out as announced with a battery display on Plan 11 at 12 o’clock, noon and band concerts by the J & L band on Plan 11 throughout the afternoon and evening.

       Saturday evening’s program was featured by a magnificent display of fireworks on Plan 11, this display being witnessed by hundreds of foreign and English-speaking people, who thronged the hills around. The fireworks were displayed by the Pennsylvania Fireworks Company and the Ohio Fireworks Company, with the former company being declared the winner with the most elaborate display.

       The program set for Sunday, August 14th, has been postponed until next Sunday, August 21st, and will be staged as originally arranged by the committee.

       Next Sunday morning, the J & L band will start the day with a concert which will begin at 7 o’clock and will be given at the band stand on Plan 11, while the Ambridge band marches through Plan 7 on its way to Plan 11.

       At 9 a.m. there will be a parade of Italian Political Club members, other organizations and a large group of children dressed in white. The parade will start from Fourth avenue, Plan 11 and march down Plan 11 hill to Franklin avenue, down Franklin avenue to Station Street, countermarch up Franklin avenue to St. Titus church where special high mass, in memory of St. Rocco, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. After mass, the parade will march over the downtown streets and back to Plan 11.

       Sunday afternoon there will be band concerts and a program of sports on Plan 11, the latter to start at 3 p.m.
